Madam Cuba reduced scheduling time from four days to two hours per month.
Founded in 2020 in Aarhus, Madam Cuba was created to bring a warm, Latin atmosphere, and good vibes into Aarhus’ inner city. Every Thursday, the bar hosts its popular Salsa night - and every Friday and Saturday, one has to be quick to snatch a table.
“Madam Cuba is a great place to drink delicious cocktails and listen to nice music”, says Burak Morali, the owner and founder of Madam Cuba, who has worked in bartending for almost 20 years. But when he looks back at his years of experience and the founding process of Madam Cuba, there is one thing that itches.
“During all my time in bartending, I never came across a good way to plan work shifts”, says Burak.
Week by week, he was carefully setting up the bar shifts for all colleagues in several Excel sheets: “There was just so much writing for me - a lot of copy-and-paste, writing down names, and coordinating with the individual staff.”
Not only did this process consume a lot of Burak’s time (it would often take him 4 days per month) - it also made the process unpleasant for employees, as swapping shifts and adjusting work times didn’t work easily.
“I didn’t even know there was an easy alternative to this until I came across Workfeed. I started using it one year after opening Madam Cuba, and it immediately made a huge difference: it is so easy to plan who is bartending when with the app”, Burak recounts. “It empowers employees, and saves time for me. Now, I only use two hours a month for planning schedules.”
As many of Madam Cuba’s employees have an international background, the bar team could make use of the English version of the app. This made the onboarding process work smoothly.
“When you introduce a new app to your team, it can often seem complicated and be met with skepticism. But Workfeed is just so extremely easy to use that within a few days, every employee had completely familiarised themselves with the app.”
Now, Madam Cuba’s employees can use the app to show when they are available, and when they are absent or want to swap shifts. Whenever there is a change, everyone involved receives a notification on their phone and is directed to Workfeed’s app.
